Cosmo Lofts just got an impressive new building mural for Pacific Reach Properties in Hollywood. It’s a large one, 10 feet tall and 18 feet in length. Hand painted too, because handmade is still best made. So it’s big and bold, guaranteed to be seen from quite a distance. That’s the point of a building mural, after all. Graffiti’s Journey from “Vandalism” to Art in San Fernando Valley

Graffiti is back in Los Angeles, and in San Fernando Valley artistes like Levi Fonz Ponce are making murals of iconic figures that are meaningful to the community. And to think they used to be seen as eyesores, as the defacement of public property, spray painted by unruly youngsters out to Stick It to The Man. Vandalism, it was called, named after the Vandals, barbarians who invaded Rome and broke all their stuff. But now graffiti’s become accepted in the arts scene, seen as a free expression of the human spirit heedless of property boundaries, now displayed as striking murals in public spaces across big cities like Los Angeles, wall art for upscale establishments, even as office decoration for more laid back workplaces. It’s an intriguing shift, but how did it happen?

December’s a month away! That means Christmas and Chanukah  season’s almost here and by now lots of establishments have brought out their holiday decorations and are filling the air with seasonal songs. A few might’ve already been at it when the months began ending in “-ber.” While there’s always debate on when it’s too early to “holiday up,” it’s undeniable that there’s nothing quite like the arrival of the first days of Christmas. It’s just awesome to bask in the festive mood and jolly sights and sounds, and – better yet – take part in it by adding to the cheerful chorus that brightens people’s lives and marks a wonderful conclusion to the year!
